Cycles of meaning-making crystallization in the WeValue InSitu process as clear contributions towards transformative learning

Transformative learning is highly sought by practitioners and academics in sustainable development, education for adult education, because it involves shifts perspectives which can potentially underpin significant changes worldviews ways of learning. A practice-based design process crystallizing local shared values, called WeValue InSitu, already reported to regularly produce transformative (TL), but its lack discipline- or theory-based origins means there are currently no formalise mechanisms. There thus a need conceptualize the sub-processes within order provide theoretical underpinning, extract key contributions production (TL). Here, Polanyi’s fine-toothed micro-processes used analyse discourses from transcripts InSitu event reveal patterns meaning-making meaning-checking cycles. Also identified facilitator actions of: redirecting, challenging, refocusing, reflecting back, disentangling concepts. These findings allow self-consistent conceptualization formal methodology. Furthermore, these will lead more widespread transferability scaling-up field, meet demand known uses e.g. climate change adaptation planning, sustainability assessments, education. The reconceptualized also contribute wider TL research, since enable reliable replace fortuitous case studies.
